Routes to Access

Driving research to unlock immersive storytelling for everyone.

Routes to Access is a research initiative led by Fuzzy Duck, focused on improving accessibility in immersive experiences for all audiences. Over a three-month period, the project explored how adaptive audio and vision technologies can be used to create inclusive, engaging environments without compromising on creativity. Looking at how we could help create a set of standards to make shared in-person experiences accessible.

Through interviews, workshops, and a roundtable event, we brought together museum professionals, technologists, creatives, accessibility consultants, and individuals with lived experience. These conversations helped us identify the current barriers to accessible design, as well as the opportunities for innovation when accessibility is considered from the outset.

Phase 1 of the project was about listening, learning, and challenging assumptions. What emerged was a clear appetite for inclusive design approaches that don’t simply adapt existing content, but reimagine how immersive experiences are conceived, developed, and delivered.

As we move into Phase 2, we’ll begin testing and prototyping practical solutions that put these ideas into action.
